Courses Offered
Reading Strategies – an intensive supplemental English Language Arts course designed to assist struggling readers in moving toward grade level reading skills.  Reading Strategies focuses on expanding vocabulary skills, improving comprehension skills and strengthening listening, viewing, speaking and writing skills.  Reading Strategies is designed for those students whose standardized test scores and classroom-based assessment results indicate he/she is reading at one or more grade levels below his or her peers.  The course fulfills the district requirements that struggling readers be offered additional assistance during the school day. The class includes: whole group instruction, independent reading, small group instruction, and independent computer instruction using the READ 180 curriculum.

Essential Math 2 – A small class for students who have significant delays in basic math skills.  The students study basic skills, fractions, decimals geometry, time and money measures, and simple algebraic equations.  The Saxon math curriculum, which uses incremental development and continual review to improve student learning, is used.

Study Skills – A small class for students to work on IEP goals.  The students are taught skills, concepts and behaviors that enable them to be more successful in the school setting.  The goal of the course is that each student will become organized, responsible, accountable and actively involved in his or her education.

Co-Taught Classes – Students may receive instruction toward their IEP goals within the regular education classes.  The classes are co-taught with a special education teacher and a regular education teacher.  At this time co-taught classes are English 7, English 8, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1A.
