| Welcome To F.A.C.S. Web Page! |  |
Hi, my name is Mrs. Brown and I have been teaching F.A.C.S. here at Highland Jr. 12 years! When I first started teaching here the class was called Home Ec.. Even though the name has changed,
some of the essential curriculum has remained the same. Currently
the F.A.C.S. department has two distinct elective classes that are
offered;
These
classes gives students an opportunity to build confidence, use
organizational strategies, develop and strengthen fine motor
skills. Practice relationship building, follow verbal and written
instructions as well as taking personal responsibility for tasks are also stressed within these classes.
A few years ago, the Home Economics name was changed to Family
& Consumer Science (F.A.C.S.). Even though this class still covers
sewing, cooking, child care, this class encompasses so much more!
The
students learn how F.A.C.S. is directly linked to science, math,
technology, social studies, English and service learning. Topics such
as finding a job, balancing a checkbook, removing stains from clothing,
. . . this class is designed to be cross - curricular. Everyday, the
students are learning how F.A.C.S. is directly related to other school
subjects, and everyday life.
