|  |  |  | | Course Syllabus |  | Course Description: Physical education is an essential and basic part
of a total education program. In this semester, students will be
provided with a variety of activities to help develop the skills,
knowledge, and attitude necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle, as well
as function effectively in society.
National Standards in Physical Education:
- Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
- Demonstrates
understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics
as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
- Participates regularly in physical activity.
- Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
- Exhibits safe, responsible behavior that respects self and others, while accepting diversity in physical activity settings.
- Understands the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Class Expectations: 1. Students must be in the locker room before the bell rings. 2. Each student is required to bring a change of clothes (gym uniform) to class. 3.
Students will be given a warning the first time he/she forgets his/her
uniform or chooses not to wear it. Every time after that the student
will be assigned after school detention. 4. Never leave class without the teacher’s permission. 5. Students will have five (5) minutes to dress. 6. No food or gum is allowed in the physical education areas or fields. 7. If a student loses anything in this department, report it immediately to the Physical education teacher. 8. Boys will use the EAST stairs and the girls will use the WEST stairs. 9. Each student will be issued a Phy. Ed. Lock. If this lock is lost a $3.50 replacement fee is charged. 10. Keep your coats and books in your hall locker, not your Phy. Ed. Locker.
Locker room: 1. The locker rooms will be locked at all times except when students are dressing. 2.
All books, clothing, valuables, and shoes are to be locked in the
locker. AVOID BRINGING VALUABLES AND MONEY TO THE LOCKER ROOMS. 3. When changing clothes, change in your own area; use your own locker. 4. DO NOT GIVE YOUR LOCKER COMBINATION TO ANYONE!
Uniform: 1. Shorts and shirt (athletic type) 4. Sweat shirt (optional) 2. Athletic socks 5. Sweat pants (optional) 3. Tennis shoes (good condition)
Excuses: 1.
Any student who has reason to be excused from physical education class
should present a dated note from his/her parent/guardian to the nurse
before 7:25a.m. Students are to give the excuse from the nurse to
their teacher. 2. If a student is excused for more than three (3)
days, he/she must have a medical excuse from a doctor. The student
will be sent to the library to do at least a two page a day written
report on fitness.
Make – Up Work: Students are responsible to make an appointment with the teacher to receive his/her make–up work.
Grading: 1. The achievement grade is determined by the student’s work in class. 2.
The teacher determines the grade by observing the students’
demonstration of skills, scores on written tests, and the scores on
performance tests. 3. The areas in which the students will be
graded include: standards, district assessments, class participation,
class attendance, tardiness, changing into their uniform,
sportsmanship, following the rules (class and activities), and conduct.
