American Sign Language I
We are very excited about ASL and Deaf culture. Some of us are in this class because we know someone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and we want to be able to communicate with them. Some of us are curious about American Sign Language. Some of us already know some American Sign Language, but want to learn more. Here are some of the ideas we will explore and discuss this year:
  • Introducing ourselves and our families
  • Months and days of the week
  • Yes/No questions verses Wh-questions
  • Non-grammatical markers
  • Morning routines
  • Concepts of Deaf culture and ASL grammar
  • Food
  • Handicapped verses Cultural perspectives on Deafness
  • Modified meaning: signs and adjectives
  • Household signs
  • Visually modified Deaf households
  • Negation
  • Colors
  • School signs
  • Positions on cochlear implants
  • Math in ASL

  •
